75th anniversary of the first transport to Nazi German death camp in Chelmno nad Nerem (Kulmhof)

On December 8 at 9:00 am at the Radegast at Avenue of Remembrance for the Victims of Litzmannstadt Ghetto 12, a ceremony commemorating these tragic events was held. About 12:00 the ceremony moved into the forest Rzuchów near Chelmno on the Ner river – the site of mass graves of the victims of the Holocaust center in Kulmhof.
Kulmhof (Chelmno on the Ner) is the first German extermination camp, a special place in the tragic history of the Holocaust. Criminal activity began here even before the Wannsee Conference (January 1942), where the luminaries of the Third Reich formally decided on the so called final solution of the Jewish question. In the process of murdering on an industrial scale, it served as a quasi-laboratory that tested methods of the most effective killing.
It was also the longest-functioning German camp of immediate killing and  the only that was closed (April 1943) and re-launched in March next year. Unlike other places of extermination, the victims were gassed not in the stationary chambers, but in the trucks. It is estimated that in Kulmhof a total of approximately 200 thousand women, children and men – in the vast majority of Jews, as well as 4 300 Rom, probably a group of Czech children and dozens of Soviet POWs were killed. In the camp, an unspecified number of Poles had lost their lives, including nuns and priests brought to Kulmhof from people's homes and shelters from Wloclawek.
